Hey! Welcome and feel free to explore my newest site!
But first, let me tell you about myself…
I am Henny, a single mum of two teenagers, a nurse and an entrepreneur.
Like most of the people I know, I have struggled with my weight and self perception. I had a hard time keeping up with what the world – the social media perceived as ‘beautiful’.
I will always tell myself that what matters most is what is in the heart, which I know is totally true, but when I look at the mirror I often end up telling myself ‘if you only look like her…’ or ‘if you only have her eyes’.
These thoughts go on and on. I have tried many kinds of diets, and will usually try what is the latest trend or what worked for my friend, or even what this beauty influencer tried and sworn by had given her the most amazing figure.
I will jump on the bandwagon without doing the most important thing – understanding my body and what it truly needs. This has been my ‘health journey’ for years.
Nothing consistently worked for me and I remember I asked myself several times ‘what is wrong with me?!’.
Then something happened to me – COVID 19 happened to me. Priorities changed in a snap of a finger. What matters to you several months ago seems to be insignificant now.
The JLo body that you were dying for will be meaningless if you are six feet below the ground! I guess you kind of see the light in moments like these. That’s what it felt like when I had my Eureka moment, my A-ha moment, so to speak.
I suddenly thought that maybe the process of getting there is the most important thing. The learning and the experiences we gained while doing it is, after all, the prize. Not the weight, not the size and not the numbers – these will just be bonuses.
Don’t get me wrong, the result will definitely motivate us to push more but what I am saying is that the road in achieving your set goals is by far more valuable than the end result. Do I make sense??
For the last year, the world has looked at health as a matter of global priority. Countries had been preparing for decades for terrorists’ attacks but never had anybody thought to prepare for a viral attack of this proportion.
Now, everybody wants to be healthy. To boost their immune system. People rush to their chemist to purchase bottles and bottles of supplements.
There’s a long list of people who want to buy bicycles and you have to wait for months before you can purchase one.
We now walk a lot, run a lot. If there’s a positive thing that we got from the pandemic, I think this is it. We now started thinking if we are healthy enough to be protected from infections, which we should have been thinking even before the pandemic.
Millions of people have spoken about self-acceptance and self-love but we only know the true meaning of it once we try to believe in it and live it.
Not an easy process, at least for me. Entails rediscovering yourself and re-programming your mind to embrace every imperfections and flaws which you had believed to be ugly and unpleasant.
Feels like undoing memories from the past so you can move on to the future but the truth is that you can’t undo anything. There is no rewind, pause or erase button.
We can just use these memories and past experiences to make us stronger, wiser and more beautiful. To not be the victim but be the victor and to always say that you are worth it – because you certainly are!
So! Having said all these things, I finally decided, with the help of a very dear friend, to build this site and to be able to share my experiences (both the good and the bad), give more information about health and well-being, and provide yummy and healthy recipes that will blow your minds (and your kids’ too!).
I am so excited to be able to share this with all of you with a wish that we can grow together from shared experiences and from motivating each other.
Hopefully, this site will give you choices that can work for you and will make you feel better and make you see yourself in a different light.
The ultimate goal is to empower you, for you to be able to make your own choices and be happy about it, to embrace one’s individuality and to see each scar, curve, wrinkle, grey hair as a beautiful thing that makes you unique.
